29 Fatalities Reported as Vessel Capsizes in North-Central Nigeria.

Rescuers reported on Wednesday that a boat carrying 80 individuals sank in Nigeria’s north-central Niger state, resulting in at least 29 deaths.

The incident took place on Tuesday at the Malale River, Abubakar Idris, a representative from the Red Cross, informed AFP.

“The State Emergency Management Agency stated that the cause was linked to overloading and a collision with a tree stump.”

SEMA reported that 29 bodies were found, two remain missing, and 50 individuals were saved.

The vessel was traveling from the village of Tugan Sule to Dugga.

Incidents frequently occur on Nigeria’s crowded rivers, typically due to overloaded vessels, inadequate upkeep, or non-adherence to safety rules.–Agencies
