DUBAI: Cultural connections between Pakistan and Bangladesh received a melodious enhancement as globally acclaimed singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan sang a Bengali song for the first time — and admirers are endlessly praising it.
Rahat collaborated with renowned Bengali vocalist Rubayyat Jahan for a heartfelt duet named Tumi Amar Prem Piyasha. The arrangement and composition were created by music director Raja Kaasheff, who motivated Rahat to take on the challenge of performing in Bengali.
Fans have been enchanted by Rahat’s perfect enunciation and expressive performance. The line “Ele tumi moner gobire, janbe tumar ami ke” (Come, you will know who I am in your heart) has received notable acclaim, with numerous fans stating that Rahat resembled an experienced Bengali singer.
In an interview with Geo News, Raja Kaasheff — known for working with legends such as Asha Bhosle and Adnan Sami — remarked that Rahat’s performance has made a significant impact.
“His beloved singing has made a significant impression on me and music enthusiasts as well,” he stated.
Rubayyat Jahan disclosed that Rahat composed the Bengali lyrics using Urdu script to refine his performance. “Performing with him was a tremendous privilege,” she mentioned.
The duet is hailed as a landmark in South Asian music, merging the vibrant traditions of Pakistan’s qawwali with Bangladesh’s melodic heritage
