Vibrations Sensed in Bajaur, North Waziristan, and Abbottabad

Two earthquakes struck northern Pakistan within a span of 12 hours. A 5.9-magnitude earthquake shakes Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and multiple tremors strike the Afghanistan-Pakistan area.

In the early hours of Friday, light to moderate earthquake shakes were experienced in Bajaur, North Waziristan, and Abbottabad, leading to panic among sleeping residents who hurried out of their houses.

This is the second earthquake to strike northern Pakistan in less than 12 hours.

A 5.9-magnitude quake shook Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday night, according to the National Seismic and Tsunami Monitoring Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The seismological center reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was situated in the Hindu Kush area of Afghanistan at a depth of 111 kilometers.

Tremors were noted in Peshawar, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Shabqadar, Charsadda, and Parachinar, along with Nowshera, Hangu, and Kohat. Tremors were likewise experienced in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Swat, and Attock.

In Punjab, tremors were felt in Mianwali, Chakwal, Talagang, Kallar Kahar, and nearby regions, with Multan also reporting vibrationsIn Islamabad and Rawalpindi, powerful tremors caused people to hurry outside.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, residents of Neelum Valley and Dhirkot experienced shakingThere have been no immediate reports of injuries or destruction.

Numerous earthquakes have struck the Afghanistan-Pakistan area, located at the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

In neighboring Afghanistan, the casualty count from a devastating earthquake that hit the eastern region over the weekend surged to over 2,200, according to updated figures, marking it the deadliest in decades to affect the nation.

Most of the fatalities from the magnitude-6.0 earthquake that struck the mountainous area near Pakistan late Sunday occurred in Kunar province, which saw 2,205 deaths and 3,640 injuries, as reported by Taliban authorities.
