US President Donald Trump on Friday remarked that India and Russia appear to have been “lost” to China following their leaders’ meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week, emphasizing his rift with New Delhi and Moscow as Beijing advances a new global order.
“It appears we have lost India and Russia to the depths of China.” “Wishing them a lengthy and fruitful journey together!” Trump posted on social media alongside a picture of the three other world leaders gathered at Xi’s summit in China.
When questioned about Trump’s post, the spokesperson for the Indian foreign ministry informed reporters in New Delhi that he had no remarks.
Representatives from Beijing and Moscow were not immediately available to comment on Trump’s message on his Truth Social platform.
Xi welcomed over 20 leaders from non-Western nations for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the Chinese port city of Tianjin, featuring Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Putin and Modi were spotted holding hands at the summit as they approached Xi, before all three stood together side by side.
Modi’s improving relationship with China occurs as Trump has strained US-India relations due to trade issues and various conflicts. Earlier this week, Trump expressed he was “very disappointed” in Putin but remained unconcerned about the increasing bonds between Russia and China.
