Karachi Braces For Urban Flooding as PMD Predicts Intense Heavy Rain Tonight.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted “heavy to very heavy rainfall” in regions of Sindh, including Karachi, on Sunday evening, cautioning that the rain may lead to urban flooding in the city’s low-lying areas.

According to the meteorological department, heavy rainfall is anticipated in the evening for the port city’s inhabitants, with showers forecasted in the surrounding areas.

It also mentioned that the city is expected to have sporadic rain until September 11.

The Met Office stated that, with partly cloudy conditions expected in the next 24 hours, the highest temperature is anticipated to be between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while the lowest is projected to be 27.5°C.

The PMD reported that the humidity is at 78%, with a southwest sea breeze blowing at 15 kilometres per hour.

A low-pressure system situated over Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in India has strengthened, increasing the likelihood of rain in Sindh, according to the PMD, cautioning that low-lying regions in Karachi and various other cities could experience urban flooding.

In the alert released on Saturday, the National Weather Forecasting Centre indicated that rain and wind/thundershowers are anticipated in Sindh and South Punjab, with significant rainfall possible at scattered locations in Sindh.

“A low-pressure system is positioned over Rajasthan and is expected to shift towards the west.” “Monsoon winds are moving into Sindh and the eastern regions of Punjab, which may possibly strengthen,” it stated.

It additionally cautioned that heavy rains might lead to urban flooding in low-lying regions of Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparker, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Hyderabad, and Karachi.

Increased rainfall in the flood-affected regions of Punjab could worsen the conditions during the predicted timeframe, it noted.
