President Asif Ali Zardari has called on all institutions to stay ready for the anticipated heavy rain in Sindh. He stressed that preparations for moving the public to safe locations must be finished.
The president urged provincial, district, and local authorities to remain vigilant and prepared to address possible flooding. He instructed that early arrangements be made, especially in urban, low-lying, and coastal regions. Relief equipment and staff should be on standby at both district and tehsil tiers. The importance of ongoing observation of water levels at Hub Dam and other reservoirs was also emphasized.
He recommended that both the media and local authorities should participate actively in public awareness initiatives. Residents were advised to adopt safety measures and adhere to government guidelines.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) indicates that the rain-producing weather system now positioned over the borders of Gujarat and Rajasthan in India may impact Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.
The spokesperson for NDMA mentioned that the rain might persist intermittently until 10 September. There is a chance of intense to extremely intense rainfall in the Koh-e-Sulaiman area and southern Punjab. Urban flooding is a concern in certain areas of Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.
Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed officials to improve and escalate the effectiveness of rescue and relief efforts in areas impacted by floods. He instructed that prompt and sufficient support be given to those uprooted.
The prime minister stated that a strategic plan is being formulated in collaboration with provinces to address the negative effects of climate change. Thorough planning is being conducted for high-risk zones, alongside measures to enhance and unify systems for early alerts and robust infrastructure.
