Colin Farrell Bets Big in Berger’s ‘Ballad of a Small Player.

Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Ballad of a Small Player, offering the first look at Edward Berger’s gripping new drama starring Colin Farrell.

The film, a sequel to Conclave, has already stirred major awards buzz ahead of its release.

Based on Lawrence Osborne’s acclaimed novel, the movie follows Farrell as a high-stakes gambler in hiding in Macau, whose carefully crafted life begins to unravel as old debts close in.

Director Edward Berger, best known for his Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front, brings his signature realism and tension to this dark, atmospheric story.

The film also stars Tilda Swinton, Fala Chen, Deannie Yip, and Alex Jennings. The script, adapted by Rowan Joffé, reunites Berger with cinematographer James Friend, who also worked on All Quiet on the Western Front.

Shot on location in Macau and Hong Kong, Ballad of a Small Player blends visual grandeur with moral downfall. The film premieres in select theaters on October 17, followed by a Netflix release on October 29.

Early awards chatter already places Colin Farrell among the top contenders for Best Actor, with critics praising his intense and haunting portrayal of a man consumed by risk.
