FO Clarifies Shama Junejo’s Attendance at UNGA.

The Foreign Office releases a statement to clarify Dr. Shama Junejo’s position following criticism regarding her participation in Pakistan’s United Nations General Assembly delegation.

The Foreign Office (FO) stated that “the person in question was not included in the official letter of credence for the Pakistan delegation to the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Session, which was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.” Consequently, her position behind the Defence Minister was not sanctioned by the Deputy Prime Minister/ Foreign Minister.

Individuals have accused Shama Junejo of supporting Zionism and Israel due to her previous posts on X, in which she expressed her admiration for Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu.

Ex-federal ministers Shireen Mazari and Fawad Chaudhry criticized the government of Pakistan and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, whom she was positioned behind, for permitting a pro-Israel supporter to be included in the Pakistan delegation.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause, criticized the Foreign Office in a post on X, asking for clarification on how this person was allowed to be present: “Who is this woman? What is her reason for joining us in the delegation? And why was she positioned behind me? “The responsibility to answer these questions lies solely with the Foreign Office.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement clarifying that Shama Junejo was not an official member of the Pakistani delegation and that her seating was not authorized by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The authorization for the seating arrangement remains uncertain.
