India Announces The Discharge of More Water Into The Sutlej River.

Pakistan : The Indian High Commissioner announced on Thursday that additional water is being released from two locations on the Sutlej River,

The Indian High Commission in Islamabad notified the authorities of a severe flood warning at 8:00 am on Thursday morning after water was discharged from the Sutlej at Harike and downstream of Firozpur.

The high commission previously communicated details regarding the water release from the Sutlej River on Wednesday.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) forecasted additional rain in the northern regions of the country in the next 24 to 48 hours.

“According to NDMA, Narowal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Lahore are anticipated to experience significant rainfall within the next 24 hours.”

Heavy rains have caused chaos in Gujrat and nearby regions, with 506 millimeters of precipitation noted in merely 20 hours.

The deputy commissioner stated that the heavy rain led to the overflow of the storm drain on Qamar Sialvi Road, inundating nearby homes and stores. In the same way, Katchery Road and WAPDA Colony were inundated as rain and floodwaters entered homes and businesses.

At the same time, Bhimber Nullah rose to perilous heights, leading to a crisis of significant flooding in the region.

“According to NDMA yesterday, the southern areas of Punjab and Sindh are expected to experience heavy rains due to this weather system.”

NDMA stated that the coastal districts of Sindh, including Badin, Sujawal, and Thar Parkar, may experience significant rainfall.

Intense rainfall and river water overflow from India have triggered an unprecedented flooding crisis in Punjab.

“On September 04 or 05, the flood waters of the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers will converge at Punjnad, potentially resulting in an extraordinarily high flood situation,” NDMA warned.

NDMA stated that a large volume of floodwater will head toward Guddu in Sindh from Head Punjnad.
