Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye in Talks with Hamas on Trump’s Gaza Plan

Qatar announced plans to engage in discussions with Hamas representatives, Egypt, and Turkiye on Tuesday regarding US President Donald Trump’s Gaza proposal, stating that Hamas would evaluate it “responsibly.”

In Washington, Trump revealed a strategy that demands a ceasefire, the release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours, the disarmament of the organization, and a phased Israeli pullout from Gaza, followed by a transitional authority led by the president.

Qatar and Egypt Present Proposal to Hamas

On Monday, Qatar and Egypt presented the proposal to Hamas, and “the (Hamas) negotiating team pledged to review it thoroughly,” said foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari during a press conference.
He added: “Another meeting will also be held today, with the Turkish side participating alongside the negotiating delegation.”

The head of Egyptian intelligence mentioned that he and his Turkish counterpart were in Doha to participate in negotiations. “It remains premature to discuss reactions, yet we genuinely believe that this plan, as stated, is thorough,” Ansari remarked.

Security Guarantees for Qatar

After the announcement on Monday, Qatari officials stated they were prepared to advocate for a ceasefire in the Palestinian region after an Israeli apology for its unprecedented attack aimed at Hamas leaders in Doha earlier this month.

Ansari mentioned that the US had provided security guarantees to Qatar, and Israel had pledged not to assault it again.

“The security guarantees and commitments provided during yesterday’s (Monday) call by President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were explicit and backed by the US president’s assurance that Qatar will never face an attack,” Ansari stated.

“We are satisfied with the security guarantees provided to us,” he said, also noting “a promise from Israel not to strike Qatar again in any capacity or form.”

Regional Mediation Efforts

Qatar, together with Egypt and the United States, had spearheaded initiatives to establish a lasting ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
