NEW YORK: At the Arab-Islamic Summit in New York on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former US President Donald Trump greeted each other warmly during informal discussions on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Friendly Exchange Between Leaders
The two leaders shared a cordial handshake and open conversation, highlighting a friendly atmosphere. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was also present during the interaction.
Participation in Arab-Islamic Summit
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif joined the Arab-Islamic Summit, co-hosted by former US President Donald Trump and Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Before the summit, PM Shehbaz held meetings with:
- Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar
- King Abdullah II of Jordan
- President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia
These gatherings were marked by friendly handshakes, frank discussions, and significant diplomatic exchanges among world leaders.

Bilateral Meeting with Kuwaiti Crown Prince
Earlier, PM Shehbaz held a bilateral meeting with Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah in New York, on the sidelines of UNGA.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz:
- Recalled the historic brotherly ties between Pakistan and Kuwait
- Extended greetings and best wishes for Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah
- Expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s solidarity and support during the recent floods in Pakistan
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Kuwait, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, livestock, manpower export, and healthcare.
